On this day in 1997 our buildings were destroyed by a massive fire that gutted much of the business. Thanks to the amazing work of the firefighters that evening, the fire was prevented from spreading to other downtown structures but unfortunately the Sunflower was massively damaged. Over the course of the next year a satellite shop ran by employees carried on business while the rest of the employees began the long process of restoration. The fact we are still here today is a testament to our incredible staff, community and customers that all rallied around the Sunflower in a tragic time. We wouldn't be here 17 after the fire (42 years since opening!) without all of you!
